CM Punjab tube well solar scheme for farmers 2024

Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has unveiled her intention to initiate a tube well solar scheme initiative aimed at assisting farmers in the province. During a meeting with the Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Kazim Pirzada, the discussion revolved around the operations of the Irrigation Department, with a specific emphasis on guaranteeing the prompt delivery of water to farmers.

CM Maryam announced that the province will line a total of 1200 waterways with Rs 10 billion in the first phase, and an additional 7,000 waterways in the second phase. She emphasized that this program will provide abundant water accessibility to farmers, including those located alongside the canals. She informed the gathering that the current cost of operating a tube well with diesel is approximately Rs3,000 per acre, while using electricity incurs a cost of around Rs1,500 per acre. Conversely, using solar energy to irrigate one acre will cost just Rs 50, significantly alleviating farmers’ financial strain.

Various fields, including the industrial and agriculture sectors, have utilized solar energy. The best option is to use solar energy for irrigation in underdeveloped countries like Pakistan, where fuel or electricity prices are unaffordable. Thanks to the Govt. of Punjab, Pakistan, who has initiated a tube-well solar scheme for farmers to facilitate them. Like Pakistan, other undeveloped and well-developed countries should use solar energy for irrigation of their lands.
